When life breaks your heart it’s time to fix your vision. What do I mean when I say that?
Have you ever been crushed mentally and emotionally so deeply that you thought you'd never come out on the other side? Yup been there, got the tee-shirt. Perhaps you're still tightly holding onto the regret, grief or anger. If you are, then it's time to learn how to let go of past pain. You deserve to let it go and learn how to move forward with your life.
There’s no two ways about it, sometimes life breaks your heart. But holding onto past pain and anguish does more than cause emotional scarring. The truth is, when you cling to the past, you're internally changing your present. Not only that, through the Law of Attraction, you’re affecting your future. Because your feelings are like a magnet that attracts more of the same.
How can something you've kept inside for so long just be let go? It's not an easy task, but it can be done with a little effort and self-reflection.
Here are some ways you can let go of disappointment when life breaks your heart, so you can move forward with your head held high:
Ditch the Emotional Baggage
What are you holding onto and why? Identify the things you're keeping inside that you shouldn't be.
• Perhaps what you thought was the love of your life betrayed you and broke your trust. Recognize that you weren’t rejected, it was merely life redirecting you to a new (and far better) relationship.
• Maybe you tried to launch a business but it didn’t work out. Understand that failure is only a stepping stone to success. It’s an opportunity to look back and figure out how to do it better next time.
• Change the story you’re telling yourself about what happened. Think about what could be good about the past situation. What did you learn? How has it helped your personal growth?
Talk it out
Engage in a heart-to-heart with a close friend or therapist to gain another perspective. When life breaks your heart, there’s nothing like another pair of eyes looking at the situation to help you clearly see the silver lining of the grey cloud.
• Getting your emotions out in the open can help you get over any resentment or anger you may be feeling. Bottling up your emotions is never a good thing. Let it all out in a constructive way and you'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel.
It may sound easier said than done, but forgiving yourself for becoming embroiled in a doomed relationship, making a bad life decision, or ignoring the red flags the universe waved in your face, can be extremely therapeutic. Strive to let that crap go. Don't beat yourself up any longer. You’re older and wiser now.
• Once you learn to forgive yourself, you’ll find it far easier to heal and move on.
Make the first move
You're in charge of your pain. You're the one who carries it around with you and you're the only one who can change its intensity. It's up to you to take control of the pain and take the first step towards making yourself feel better.
• Acknowledge that your pain is real and that a positive solution exists.
• Confront the cause of the pain and do everything in your power to get rid of it.
The best way to move forward is to stop looking backwards. After all, you can’t get to where you want to go if you’re constantly looking at the rearview mirror of life. You can't change the past, but you can learn to accept it and move on.
Shit happens and then shift happens. Usually there are signs that a certain someone or situation isn’t right for you. Maybe you didn’t want to accept the facts because in your mind’s eye you had an image of how you wanted life to be. Perhaps the red flags were there but you chose to ignore them and closed your eyes to the situation. So, you kept the rose-tinted spectacles on until they finally fell off. And thank goodness, they did!
Because remember - when life breaks your heart, it’s always an opportunity to fix your vision for the future.
