My No-Fail Goal Setting Ritual (That Gets Results Fast)


Let’s be honest: most people have goals, but they don’t have a ritual. And that’s why they don’t stick. They write down dreams like “I want to write a book” or “I want to earn more money”... then get swept away in the laundry, the notifications, and the “I’ll start on Monday” loop.


Sound familiar?


This blog isn’t just about setting goals. It’s about locking in a goal setting ritual that actually works—one that helps you cut through the chaos and focus on what really moves the needle.


This is a ritual I return to again and again. It’s based on an idea I came across in the book The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan (link below) and honestly—it’s been a game changer. If you do it right, it’s practically fail-proof.


Why You Need a Goal Setting Ritual (Not Just a To-Do List)


We’ve been taught to glorify busyness. To hustle. To juggle 19 plates and call it success.

But real success? It comes from focus.


A goal setting ritual is your anchor. It gives your energy direction. Without one, your goals float around like balloons with no string. Pretty, but going nowhere.


Your goal setting ritual is simple: Set a goal for yourself, give yourself a deadline and make it happen!

And don’t worry if you’ve tried setting goals before and slipped. That doesn’t mean you’re lazy or broken—it just means you didn’t have the right method. Until now.


The No-Fail Goal Setting Ritual (The One I Actually Use)

Grab a cuppa, some paper (yes, real paper), and give yourself 20 minutes of sacred space. This is about you and your future.


Step 1: Brain-Dump the Dream


On a clean sheet of paper, write the date and the heading: 10 Goals I Will Achieve in the Next 12 Months


Now list them out as if they’re already true. Present tense. No “I want to…”—we’re done with that wishy-washy energy. Try:


  • “I earn £____ doing work I love.”

  • “I publish my book and it reaches the people who need it.”

  • “I feel strong, calm, and aligned in my daily life.”

  • “I take that soul-nourishing trip to Italy.”


Big, bold, soul-aligned stuff.


Step 2: The Genie Question

Now for the gold. Ask yourself:

“If I had my own Genie who could make just ONE of these happen in the next 24 hours, which one would have the biggest positive impact on my life?”

Trust your gut. The right one usually jumps out at you. Circle it. That’s your focus goal—your guiding light.


Step 3: The Ritual Begins


Transfer that goal to a clean sheet of paper. Now:


  1. Write it clearly at the top.

  2. Give it a deadline (no open loops, please).

  3. List everything you can think of that would need to happen to achieve it.

  4. Turn that into a checklist.

  5. Take one action step immediately.

  6. Do something every day to move closer.


That’s it. That’s the ritual. If you do this consistently—small, daily steps towards your one thing—you will be amazed how fast momentum builds.

The result? I finished the book. I stayed in flow. And it didn’t even feel like a grind.


This ritual grounds you. It stops the overwhelm and shows you where to point your energy.


Journal Prompts for Your Goal Setting Ritual


  1. What do I truly want to experience in the next 12 months?

  2. Which of my goals would change my life the most?

  3. What fears come up when I imagine achieving that one goal?

  4. What’s one small action I can take today toward it?

  5. What distractions or habits do I need to release?

  6. Who do I become when I commit to one powerful goal?


Don’t let another year drift by in a fog of well-meaning intentions.


Choose your one thing. Commit to the ritual. Take the tiniest step. And then the next.
